Uttarkashi is an important pilgrimage center of the country located in
the Garhwal region of the state of Uttaranchal. Situated at a distance
of 145 kms from Rishikesh and at an elevation of 1158 meters on the
banks of river
Bhagirathi, this ancient town is the gateway to
the pilgrim route to
Gangotri and
Yamunotri. Uttarkashi
also holds the grace of having the origin of rivers Ganga and Yamuna. It
is also known as the
"Devbhumi" (The land of gods and
goddesses). Uttarkashi is known for its temples dedicated to
Parshurama,
Annapurna, Devi, Datatryea, Kali Bhairon and other gods and
