Strobus pine is an excellent ornamental conifer and is also an important timber species. Its form is somewhat pyramidal when young and becomes broad with age. The 3-5 inches long needles found in bundles of five are thin and soft. Needle color varies from plant to plant and ranges from yellow green to blue green.

The cones are 10 to 17.5 cm long. These cones are borne on a long stalk with thin and rounded cone scales. The fruits get mature in August.
