Polearms and battle axes are the most ancient
weapons. Medieval Polearms and battle axes are being used since the
stone ages.

All polearms have a long haft and a blade at the top. This blade may be
an axe or a dagger or a spear or any other type. These were either used
by a mounted army to keep the enemy at a distance, or for throwing. At
the far enemy, they were often used as a hunting tool also. The top
blade was usually a modification of a household or a farm blade.
The battle axe is a name given to

all
fighting axe. These may be one or two headed. And the blade size may
also vary. Their basic purpose was to chop or slash and could be used
for close combats or to keep the enemy at bay. The handle of the axe is
heavy and sturdy. Raw hide was often used to cover the haft. The Axe is
considered to be the weapon of Yamraj, the lord of death in Hindu
Mythology.
