Homemade Craft Ideas For Halloween Decorations(Oct 27, 2009)

Halloween is just here, and once again its the season for aberrant zombie costumes, spooky decorations and some great do it yourself crafts. Craft items are either paper or wood crafts, that require most of their material from daily trash, and thus go easy on money and are a great fun to do. For decoration delights, there are loads of spooky, eerie decoration ideas that can be easily made at home and work as great fright tools to scare your friends and family on Halloween.

Bats - Bats are an easy to make decoration crafts, that can be put on different backgrounds to give a different look and feel.

Halloween Bats

Take a wooden cloth spin and a round base, and paint them in black acrylic craft paint. Let it dry. Make eyes with white paint and put black dots in the center. Make white fangs and 3 circular orange buttons in the center of the body of the cloth spin. Let it dry and spray with desired acrylic sealer. Cut out patterns: red for the cape, black for ears and wings, and glitter black for the bow ties. Glue all of them as in the picture. Attach it to the base and let it dry. OR You can also make a moon picture base and paste paper made bats onto it. If the complete thing is a paper craft, use lights behind it to make it a glowing moon.

Witches, Ghosts, Skeletons

Pop up ghosts

Start with a piece of cheesecloth 2 yards long and 1 yard wide. Place a helium filled balloon (white is best) in the middle of the fabric and gather loosely around balloon. Draw a horrid mask on the cloth with a felt pen. You can put some ghosts in a box and when people open the box the ghosts will float up and scare everyone! Or, you can place them on string in front of an open window or a fan and watch them gently move in the breeze.

Witch craft

Draw the face and a sign (that the witch would hold)on the wood/ strong cardboard. Paint black around the outside of the face and sign. Be sure to paint the back. Let dry after each painted color. Paint the face peach. Let dry. Draw the facial features on with the black marker. Then color cheeks with a sponge. Using the marker, draw the fingers holding a sign. Use white paint for fingers and white for the sign. Decorate as desired. Make a creepy and long hat and randomly paint stars using white paint on the hat and the dress. Make hair with twisted, then unrolled paper strips.

Pumpkins crafts

Pumpkin crafts include a large number of shapes and set up creation possibilities, each of them very distinct and creative. Tips for a number of diverse pumpkin crafts are available online.

Get a template of your choice, you can also download a template. Cut a hole in bottom of pumpkin, and hollow pumpkin until flesh is about 1/2 inch thick. Stick the template onto pumpkin. Enlarge or reduce to fit. Punch holes along the design and remove the template. Use a cutter to carve along the outline and interior features of the image, exposing flesh but not cutting all the way through. Draw a frame around design with a pen. Carve away rind inside frame and around design; cut 1/4 inch deep so that uncarved area is clear. Rub petroleum jelly on exposed flesh to repel ink drips and to slow decay. Fill up missed areas with ink. Cut away if ink strays.

Last but not the least for creating a complete scary atmosphere

Decorative Lighting: Use candles and different kinds of lights for glowing window panes. Use lighting all over your place to create the right ambiance.

Spooky Feel: Spread some dried bread and pretzels under a rug, to give the sound of crunching bones underfoot when somebody walks over. Use pop up props, and hanging decoratives for a scarier experience.

Scary Sound: Record scary sounds and play them when your target arrives. For example, a large metal sheet will give you a great thunder sound, cellophane paper crunching is for a roar fire, or simply use your mouth to record frightening screams and sounds.
